Sites that connect

I specialize in designing Web sites where people can work together. Content-management software allows each user to log in and be given privileges to edit specific parts of the site, using easy-to-learn editing tools within an ordinary Web browser -- no additional software is needed on the user's computer.

At Prairie Star District Unitarian Universalist Association the Youth-Adult Committee has its own area of the site, and the elected "communication co-chairs" have essentially free reign to design whatever they like. Giving them their own voice on the official district site is a big step toward the committee's goal of youth empowerment!

Each committee in the district organization has its own area where they can share and discuss ideas. Images and other files can be easily attached to the conversation.

At the Permaculture Research Institute - Cold Climate (site still under development), volunteers can add and edit records in an extensive database of plants. All changes are saved to a special holding area until they are reviewed and approved by a staff member. This database front-end was designed entirely using two modules I wrote for the open-source PmWiki project: SelectQuery and UpdateForm.
