Eat your fill while drinking fresh basil, stevia and sage tea. Talk with friends under candle light in an old fashioned long table family manner. Continuing into our next installation of the "Summer Cafe Permaculture Series", Thursday July, 15, we will be hosting diner and showing the film "Ecological Designers". This film is sure to awe and amaze you as we are guided through a journey of top movers and shakers in the realms of energy efficient building, solar energy systems, experimental building, living machines, water systems and complete system design. Film starts at 8:00 pm with a local meal option starting at 6:30 pm for $6.00.

As part of our "Summer Cafe Permaculture Series", starting July 8th, each Thursday the SLC will host either a free speaker, workshop, film or music event. Diner will be served with outdoor seating starting each Thursday at 6:30 pm. Programed events will start promptly at 8:00pm

Right now we are in the process of planning a weekly series of educational speakers, films, skill sharings and music related to ecology, artisinal micro-enterprise, art, community, culture and of course, fun!

Rocket mass heaters are, simply put, the natural building version of a masonry heater (aka Finnish stove or Kachelofen). In a weekend, we’ll take clay, sand, straw, sawdust, firebrick and a few old steel drums and turn them into a super-efficient wood-burning stove that stores almost all the heat from combustion in a bench or bed of durable hardened earthen materials. In one weekend we’ll build a complete rocket mass heater in a hybrid straw bale/earthen home.

At the SLC campus on May 15-16,  Hap and Lin Mullenneaux along with SLC staff will be on hand from 9 to 5 each Saturday and Sunday to distribute plants and provide planting instructions.
